An exceptional lineup of speakers will be featured at the Plastics and Chemicals Industry Association (PACIA) National Conference 2013 which will be held at The Langham Hotel in Melbourne on June 4-6 with the theme ‘Adding value: the next decade for chemicals and plastics in Australia’.
Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA), has invited key speakers for the event including Dr. Megan Clark, Chief Executive of CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization), Paul Howes, National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union, and Ross McCann, PACIA President and Chairman of Quenos. The other highlight speakers are Dennis Shanahan, Tom Elliott, Bernard Salt, Anne Barker, Ross Pilling and Cal Dooley, who will be speaking via video.
According to the PACIA website, this year’s conference will launch the two final pieces of the Strategy Industry Roadmap project. The first part of the project, which is an independent CSIRO Futures report called ‘Elements in Everything: Current profile and future trends for the Australian chemicals and plastics industry’, was recently launched in Canberra.
The second independent report will be delivered by CSIRO and is called ‘Strategic Directions’. The report will compare ‘business as usual’ with a strategy for sustainable growth that will support various positive outcomes including increased economic output, increase in the number of jobs, and more opportunities for innovation and locally sourced products.
The final piece of the project is the PACIA Strategic Industry Roadmap that will recommend actions and policy settings for the country’s chemicals and plastics industry, Australia’s second largest manufacturing sector.
“Together, these three reports detail a 20 year plan for sustainable growth in the chemicals and plastics industries,” according to PACIA. “The conference program will explore the report outcomes and the positive steps required by government, industry and other stakeholders to ensure the future viability and success of the chemicals and plastics manufacturing in Australia.”
Aside from the Strategic Industry Roadmap the sessions will cover topics and issues on the Australian economy in a global marketplace, the upcoming Federal election, perspectives from the industry’s leaders and the future of chemicals and plastics in Australia.
The conference, which is sponsored by companies like SNF (Australia) and Nufarm, will be attended by Chief executives and senior management from companies in the sector, as well as participants from government, media and non-government groups.
